   Wisdom and Consciousness

The value of the greatest wisdom will only be appreciated when the consciousness of the individual is sufficiently expanded to comprehend its truth.  It therefore behooves anyone seeking the meaning of life to pursue consciousness-raising techniques.  This must also include a life style that promotes mental and physical health.  The quality of the nervous system is a factor in the level of consciousness that individuals can achieve and maintain.

The Natural Course of Things

A young man came upon a beautifully colored cocoon and he noticed the intense struggle of an emerging butterfly. Carefully observing the cocoon the young man noticed that the emerging butterfly had punched a small hole in its cocoon and was fiercely struggling to push itself out. The young man hoping to help the butterfly and lessen some of its struggle took a small twig and carefully picking at the cocoon was able to enlarge the opening. The butterfly now quickly emerged from its cocoon and began fanning its wings to dry them in preparation for its first flight. When the wings were dry and the butterfly attempted to fly it fell to the ground flightless. In the struggle of emerging slowly through a small hole in the cocoon a butterfly drains much more fluid from its wings into its body and builds greater muscle mass and strength. The hastened process allowed by the young mans careful work had doomed this butterfly to a life of flightless ness.

Don't push the river it flows by itself.

Pride and Prejudice

We are all born into a culture and heritage that has both positive and negative aspects. The positive aspects of our culture should be the source of our pride. The negative aspects of our culture should not be an excuse to divorce our heritage and go off seeking a more attractive culture to adopt us. Every culture is in a state of evolution unless it is a dead or dying culture. Those things we find negative about our culture should become our challenges to improve. Even the United States was forced to give women the vote when the pressure of its society was put upon it.

The recent DNA evidence that every human being on the planet today had the same common ancestral mother takes the wind out of our arguments for racial prejudice. And for those that dispute or do not believe in science, there is the irrefutable fact that we share one common Mother Earth. The only prejudice we should be showing should be against those people and ideas that endanger our mother earth’s survival and us.

Peace and Harmony

The human concept of peace is unattainable. Can there ever be peace between the predator and its prey? The natural order of things has not made for this allowance. There is however harmony in nature and the prey does not hate or question the predator’s actions and behavior, there is acceptance and understanding. This is Harmony. Even within species there is rivalry for the top positions in society. This too has its purpose and requires understanding and acceptance. Understanding and acceptance leads to harmony. Peace is an internal possibility in every human being that will come with wisdom and understanding of the natural order of things. External peace is just a concept that is not supported by nature, there can only be harmony. Harmony built on the understanding and acceptance of the natural order of things is attainable and should be our ultimate aim. In this way we can save our selves and our mother earth much stress and resources in our journey through life and living on earth.
